What Is White Label SEO? A Straight Answer for Agencies

What is white label SEO? It's when your agency sells SEO under your own brand while a specialist partner does some or all of the work behind the scenes. Your client sees your logo, your reports and your account manager. They never meet the partner. You keep the relationship and the margin; the partner keeps the audits, fixes and outreach moving. That's the whole model. The hard part is picking a partner who won't cut corners on your clients' sites, and pricing it so the numbers still work after your own time. I'm Asif Ameer. I build WordPress sites, run SEO campaigns, and work behind the brand of agencies that need a dependable delivery partner (see my page for agencies). Here's how it works, what to hand off, what to keep, and which red flags should end a sales call early.

What Is White Label SEO in Practice? How a Month Runs

Strip away the jargon and white label SEO is a supply chain with your name on the box. The client buys from you; you buy from the partner. Here's a healthy month:

  1. 01

You sell the retainer — Scope, price and contract, all in your agency's name.

  2. 02

You brief the partner — Goals, target pages, competitors, access, and anything sensitive (brand rules, past penalties).

  3. 03

The partner does the work — Research, technical fixes, on-page changes, content or outreach.

  4. 04

You review before anything ships — No surprises on a client's live site.

  5. 05

The report goes out under your brand — Your logo, colors and domain.

  6. 06

You bill the client; the partner bills you — Your margin is the gap, minus your own time.

It works because each side is good at different things: you win and keep clients; a good partner handles the detail-heavy work that's hard to staff when you only have a few SEO clients.

What Is White Label SEO Compared With Outsourcing or Hiring?

An in-house hire, a credited freelancer and a white label partner can all deliver the same audit. What changes is who the client sees, who carries the cost when work dries up, and how fast you can scale.

None of these is wrong. If SEO becomes your core, hire eventually. If clients keep asking and you keep saying no, a partner is the quickest fix.

White label SEO reseller vs. SEO white label reseller: is there a difference?

Not really. A white label SEO reseller is usually the agency doing the reselling; an SEO white label reseller program is often how the provider describes its side. Some call it "private label SEO." Same model, different marketing. What matters is how the deal is structured:

Option

Full-service reseller bundle

Fixed packages ("Bronze, Silver, Gold") with set numbers of links and pages. Easy to resell. The catch: packages fit the average client, and no client is average. You pay for content a site doesn't need while the real problem, say a crawl issue on 400 product pages, goes untouched.

RecommendedMy pick

Pick-the-gap partnership

You keep what your team does well and outsource only the gaps. Scope is set per client from an audit, not a menu. Slightly more briefing, but every dollar goes to work that moves the site.

What you can white label (and what you should keep)

Almost every part of an SEO campaign can be outsourced. That doesn't mean it should be. Here's where agencies most often bring in help:

Six things agencies commonly white label

01

Technical audits and fixes

Crawl errors, indexing problems, redirects, schema, Core Web Vitals. It's the least visible work and the hardest to staff, which makes technical SEO the classic first thing to hand off.

02

On-page optimization

Title tags, meta descriptions, headings, internal links and content refreshes mapped to real search intent.

03

Content production

Briefs and drafts written to your client's voice. Always review these yourself; content is where brand mistakes show up first.

04

Link acquisition

Outreach and digital PR. Insist on seeing every placement URL before it goes in the report.

05

Local SEO

Google Business Profile work, citations, review processes and location pages for clients who serve a defined area.

06

Reporting

Dashboards and monthly summaries, built on your template and sent from your domain.

Bad links are the fastest way a partner can hurt a client. If you outsource link building, the contract should say how links are earned, what's banned, and that you get every live URL monthly.

Keep strategy calls, pricing, kickoff and quarterly reviews. That's where clients decide whether you're worth keeping. Hand those off and you've outsourced the relationship, not just the work.

White label local SEO: the details that trip agencies up

White label local SEO is popular because the work repeats well: Business Profile optimization, name/address/phone consistency, location pages and review requests. It's also where access mistakes happen. Three non-negotiables:

  • The client owns the Google Business Profile. Partners get manager access, never ownership.
  • No fake reviews, ever. No seeding, swaps or rule-breaking incentives.
  • Location pages must be genuinely local. Swapping the city name on a template is thin content.

Some verticals live on local search. Law firms are one, and advertising rules vary by country and state, so the client approves every claim. I've covered that playbook in SEO for lawyers.

White label SEO reports: what a good one actually shows

White label SEO reports are the only part of the work most clients ever see. A great campaign with a confusing report feels like a bad campaign. A strong report answers three questions in plain English: What did we do? What changed? What's next?

Most raw data should come from Search Console: clicks, impressions, position and indexing, straight from Google and free. New to it? Start with my Google Search Console guide. For the branded layer, Looker Studio can pull in Search Console and GA4 data at no cost, while paid platforms such as AgencyAnalytics, SE Ranking and BrightLocal offer white label dashboards, custom domains and scheduled sending (check each vendor's site for current prices).

Does your white label SEO report pass?

A report your client can't explain to their boss is a report that gets the retainer canceled.

Pricing white label SEO without eating your margin

Many agencies double the wholesale price and call it margin. But every client also costs calls, emails, report reviews and the odd Friday-night panic. That time belongs in the math. Plug your own numbers in below.

How to vet a white label SEO reseller partner

Price is the easiest thing to compare and the least useful. Vet methods, access and transparency instead.

Red flags that should end the sales call

  • Guaranteed rankings or "#1 on Google" — nobody controls Google's results, and anyone promising this is guessing or lying
  • Won't say where links come from — usually means private blog networks or paid link farms
  • Wants ownership of client accounts — Search Console, Analytics and Business Profiles belong to the client
  • Reports that are only ranking screenshots — easy to cherry-pick, impossible to tie to revenue
  • No change log for site edits — if something breaks, you won't know what or when
  • The same package for every client — a dentist and an online store don't need the same SEO
Myth

White label SEO is a shady shortcut agencies use to fake expertise.

Fact

It's a delivery model, the same way agencies already outsource hosting, development or printing. Quality depends entirely on the partner you pick and how closely you review their work. Done well, it gives clients a specialist they couldn't otherwise access.

The best test is a small paid trial: one site, one technical audit. Compare it with a solid technical SEO audit checklist. Did they find real problems or pad it with low-priority warnings? Could your client follow the fixes?

What Is White Label SEO Worth to Your Agency?

It pays when three things are true: clients genuinely want SEO, you can't staff it well yet, and the calculator leaves a margin you like. Miss one and you've added more support tickets than profit.

Be honest about timelines too. SEO compounds slowly, and clients expecting results in two weeks will churn regardless of the partner. My plain-English answer to is SEO worth it is worth sharing with clients on the fence.

And consider bundling. A client already paying for website maintenance trusts you with their site monthly; technical SEO checks are a natural add-on using the same access and tooling.

faq

White label SEO: questions agencies ask

Something else? Ask me directly.

What is white label SEO, in simple terms?

What is white label SEO? It's SEO work done by a specialist partner and sold by your agency under your brand. The client deals only with you, sees only your reports and pays you; you pay the partner a wholesale rate. It lets agencies offer SEO without an in-house team, provided they vet the partner and review the work.

Is white labeling SEO legal and ethical?

White labeling is a standard business arrangement, much like outsourcing development or hosting. What matters is that you don't misrepresent the service: deliver what the contract says, keep client data secure, and protect access to their accounts. Contracts and consumer rules differ by country, so have your own client agreement reviewed if you're unsure what you need to disclose.

Do I have to tell clients I use a white label SEO reseller?

Usually not, but check your contracts and local rules. Many agencies say they "work with specialist partners" without naming them. Never claim in-house staff or credentials you don't have, and if a client asks directly, a straight answer builds more trust than a dodge.

What should a white label SEO report include?

A useful white label SEO report covers leads or sales from organic search, Search Console clicks and impressions, a short list of tracked rankings, every link acquired with its URL, technical fixes completed, content published, and next month's plan. It should carry only your branding and open with a short summary that a busy business owner can read in thirty seconds.

Can I white label local SEO for multi-location clients?

Yes. White label local SEO suits multi-location businesses well because the work is repeatable: Business Profile optimization, citation cleanup, location pages and review processes. Make sure each location page has genuinely local content, the client keeps ownership of every profile, and your partner never uses fake or incentivized reviews.

How much does white label SEO cost?

It depends on scope, competition and how much of the campaign you outsource, so be wary of anyone quoting without seeing the site. Ask partners for per-client monthly pricing with every deliverable listed. Then run the numbers through a margin calculation that includes your own account-management time, not just the wholesale cost.
